Newmarket & District Canine Society Open Show 2018 Critique

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge at this lovely show. Weather was fabulous, dogs were of lovely quality and atmosphere was great!
Thank you to all who entered and came along.

Puppy Dog/Bitch (1,0)

1st – Tan & Helps – Beardswood Uliana – BP
What a beautiful bitch she is. Classic head with dark eyes, neat ears and dark pigment. She is very well off for bone. Strong neck flowing into well laid shoulders with correct angulation and upper arm. Deep ribcage, long ribbing and strong loin. Topline and underline were correct and sweeping. Well angulated hind quarters with low hocks. Strong, long tail. Effortless on move. Not much to fault here. Could have taken her home.

Yearling Dog/Bitch (5,0)

1st – Jansons – Nixophel Crystal Rose
Elegant bitch with feminine head, good eye shape and colour, good fill under eye, correct high set ears and dark pigment. Arched neck flowing into well angulated shoulders. Good bladed bone, feet well knuckles and sloping pasterns. Free easy mover, up, down and in profile. Handled well.
2nd – Jansons – Nixophel Carnelian Red
Impressive young male, handsome head. Similar to 1st in many ways. !st had a better topline on the move but I am sure this will be better as he matures as he is fairly rangey. Needs to lengthen more on the move.

Post Graduate Dog/Bitch (6,0)

1st – Stuart & Holt – Ollandheart Nancy - RBOB
2nd – Shannon – Erewhon Wanton Flame
Both bitches have good heads, eye shape, fill under eye, good ears and dark pigment. Harsh coats. Both have well angulated shoulders although 1st has a better length of upper arm than 2nd. Hind quarters well angulated with low hocks. 1st was more animated on the move, covering more ground in profile.

Open Dog/Bitch (7,2)

1st – Stuart & Holt – Ollandheart Abraham – BOB
Handsome male, one I have admired many times before. Fabulous expression with dark eyes, well set ears with that classic head. Strong neck with mane, good layback of shoulder and well angulated with matching hind quarters. Plenty of bladed bone with good feet. Ribcage deep and long. Loin strong and thick. I loved his width of rear. Showed power and athleticism on the move in profile and straight up and down. Lowered into his hocks. A very smart male!
2nd – Taylor – Hoddingrey Peregrine
A masculine male with a heavier head than 1st. Strong neck. God layback of shoulder but prefer the upper arm on 1st. Long, deep ribcage, decent loin. Good width of second thigh. Moved well in profile
